Things get a little trickier when you try to achieve escape velocity (that is, to give your rocket enough speed to escape gravity entirely) when launching from somewhere bigger and heavier, like the Earth.
- First, try to achieve escape velocity for a 10 tonne payload with a single propulsion stage. What happens? Why, do you think?
- Try to find a design that allows you to reach escape velocity - again, leave the exhaust velocity and the mass ratio unchanged
- What's the minimum fuel consumption needed to achieve escape velocity?
